With heavy hearts, we headed up north to Redding to spend time with family and attend services for Papalew. We were a little nervous about taking a newborn on the road, but Kai did absolutely GREAT! And we made good time!!
My family had to say goodbye to my sweet Papalew last week. My dads dad was such a fun man! As a kid, my memories of him include him and Mamalew taking us to the zoo and playing at the park and riding bikes! I know he loved his grandkids! We all have a special place for him in our hearts. The hardest part was seeing my dad and Mamalew go through the process of losing him. My heart goes to them and my Aunts who have to know their father is no longer with us. With heavy hearts, we headed up north to Redding to spend time with family and attend services for Papalew. We were a little nervous about taking a newborn on the road, but Kai did absolutely GREAT! And we made good time!! We had lunch with my sweet friend! And her adorable kiddies! Keane and Rio are a little less than a year apart and they are just so cute together!!! We loved playing with the idea that their friendship would someday blossom to something more. Although, they have no idea what we're giggling about! HAHA! I had an eye dr. appointment while I was in town and I had to play with the frames and the kiddos!! Amia LOVES her new cousin!! We had a little family photo shoot at the lake. Can't really share the good ones, but here is some teasers and pics of the kids! Casey's birthday!! So glad it worked out that we could be there and celebrate with him! The kids playing around We had sometime that night for dinner and relax time with family. My cousin is having her first baby and since I was in town, I got to crash her shower! It was so BEAUTIFUL-just perfect for a beautiful mother-to-be! The visit did go pretty fast and it was hard to have to say goodbye! We truly love our family in Redding and hope to get another visit soon and with happier circumstances! Getting a little big of play time in before we hit the road.

So sorry for your loss, Jess. Grandparents are some of the world's most special people, and it can feel like part of our hearts are torn out when they leave. Especially, as you said, when we see their loved ones grieving. I'm so glad you were able to have joy amidst the sadness by visiting with your family and friends while you were up in Redding. I know that was a huge comfort to me after saying goodbye to Grandpa--having those days to grieve together but also to celebrate his life, and then to enjoy being with each other. We are our Grandparents' legacy, and it's so special that your Papalew could meet Keane and know of little Kai. I'm sure that meeting Kai really brought a lot of comfort to your Mamalew as well! Sending lots of love and hugs your way--Junwen and I were talking with Laine that we should really meet up some time, I'd love to meet Kai now that things have hopefully settled down for you guys a bit!
