It's been forever ago! But, I really want to keep things up-to-date on our family happenings! Or, not-so-happenings! That's what August pretty much was like. Kinda boring month for this family! Golden State Surf Co. has been booming with summer busy-ness, which leaves family time to a bare minimum and little pictures to post here! But we do our best to keep things interesting! hehe
I'm so blessed to say, that most of our month was spending time with our close friends and family! LOVE catching up with people over good food and awesome conversation!
And a little randomness, catching a moment of Keane that just melts my heart. He's so incredibly handsome-well, I think so, of course! ;)
Oh man, I just love this! Boys playing "beach" in our tiny apartment with a giant beach umbrella, while torturing Chia! lol. These were most of our days for August! Relaxing times with friends and family! Can't complain, really! haha! God is so good to us!!
A little worship for your day.... great song, and just amazing views of the lake in Redding. Sigh, lucky to say I grew up here. God's creation is beyond amazing.
ahhh man, this post has been in my draft box forever! I have been coming back multiple times to work on it! Two busy little boys can keep this mama very busy making any blog updates impossible to finish!! I realize July is quickly coming to an end, but I havent even shared our June gloom happenings! So here we gooooo!
My parents got to come up for a little visit! We went to the Arboretum and Botanic Gardens in Pasadena. It was beautiful!! The scenery, gardens, and art there is awesome! Would love to go again!!
We are just so blessed to be able to dedicate our children to the Lord with our friends and family! We have such a great church that has helped us and inspired us to continue to strive to be better parents! And last month, we lifted Kai up to the Lord in prayer and dedication with my parents there! Here's a little clip of Kai's dedication!
Two wonderful families from our church are moving far away from us in the next couple weeks and we've been doing as much as possible to get all the play time in that we can before they leave! We did a San Diego trip with some church members as kinda like a last get-away together type thing! All was great for the dads and guy friends who went out and grabbed some drinks in the area, but us moms got to stay at the hotel where Keane got a 102 temp! But before the little boo got sick, he got some play time in at the park across the street from the hotel we stayed at! Here's a hilarious video of him on the slide!
And a couple splashes of random fun!
We were so blessed to be able to go to a friends wedding in Hawaii. The double blessing of being there and getting to be with friends and family! The highlight was watching Keane develop relationships with our friends' children! To see another generation of blessed relationship being passed down warms my heart! This time we visited, we had two children instead of one! Double the warm, bubbly feeling of having our little family in Hawaii!! Kai's first visit and lots of memories to take with us!
Be prepared for A LOT of pictures of Keane and Porter playing together! This is just day 1! haha
Bachelorette party time!! Kelli's last hoorah involved a belly dancer, wine and lots and lots of laughs! Exactly how it should be, right? For sure a great night with the bride to be!
The guys did a trip to the aviation museum! I guess the coolest part was they happened to be there at a time when a driver went down to the USS Arizona and they got to watch it all! Keane was stoked to see the ships and airplanes while Laine, my dad and Grandpa Ken were enjoying the history!
Beach day with the Tamaokas! I LOVED this day!! Laine and David surfing while I had the boys! I watched both sets of boys enjoying themselves with their friend! WE MISS YOU TAMAOKAS!!!
Paddling tour x2! Yeah! The guys did this last time we came (you can see about that from a previous post, HERE), but since my folks were there, we had them all do it again! Of course, they loved it! And we would definitely suggest this to our friends!!!
Laine's gopro video for the trip!
Wedding day finally arrived and it started out disastrous on our end! Laine woke up with a stomach bug which left him in bed all morning! So my dad ran to the store to pick up some coke for him and brought back one for me! I thought I'd share it with my sick-o husband! Not long after that, my dad found out that his mom (mamalew) had fallen and was in the ER! So we were all on edge wondering how bad it was and waiting to know if we had to take my parents straight to the airport to fly back to be with her! Within a couple hours and by lunch time, everyone was okay and we were ready to get on with the day! Laine was feeling less queezy and my grandma was stable!
The wedding was beautiful! For sure the best part was seeing my great friend marrying a man she has been waiting and praying for! The setting was a gorgeous beach ceremony in Waimanalo!
Saying goodbye is always hard! This year, watching Keane cry when we said goodbye to his cousin and friends pulled extra hard on my heart! It still stings a little when Keane asks to go on an airplane to go back and see everyone! God blessed us so much that we can say we got to see almost everyone at least twice! This dinner gathering helped!
We did get to squeeze a picnic at Moanalua Gardens before we left! Our tradition of visiting the gardens every time we go back is still going!!
And what's a trip home without Laine, humbly, beating Landon at kendama? So, we got it on camera! I didn't marry him for his kendama skills ;)
Did you know that I have been completely drained of energy, therefor no family blogging updates? Did you know that LA has had the hottest September in history last week? Did you know that being 9 months pregnant during a record breaking heat wave is misery? Of course you didn't know these things because I haven't done an update in forever!!!
Not too much to update on, really. So maybe that's why I haven't been very inspired on blogging. Here are some random things throughout the last couple months...
We had a fun little joint baby shower with some great friends, the Liu's, from church! They recently delivered their fourth child, and first daughter!! Very exciting! It was a fun shower with lots of fun for the kids and family!! OH and amazing food!!!
My parents came for Labor Day weekend and brought our niece, Amia!! It was so much fun to see the kids bonding! We had a great time together!!
And one more cute one just because he's just so squeezable!!
Hoping to get some more updates in soon!! And stay regular again!!
Well, anything in Hawaii, just is, BETTER! Maybe it's something in the air, or the water, or maybe it's just... paradise! Yeah, that's it! sigh.... (closing my eyes and pretending the sounds of Santa Monica Boulevard traffic are rushing waves washing over the beautiful, warm, sandy beach...) oh, sorry!! Anyway... I should have done this entry, oooohhh, maybe, at least a month ago, but things are always fun and crazy, so I'm just now getting to it! (SORRY LANDON!! I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!)
We are so lucky to be able to spend another Thanksgiving with our Hawaii family! This time, we spent a lavish 10 days in paradise, giving us plenty of time to see all our friends, and family and still having time to ourselves! Definitely one of the best trips back so far!
We were very lucky (a HUGE thank you to special family members ;)) to stay at the Marriott, Waikiki for the first couple days! This is where most of our "just us" time was spent, and it was HEAVENLY!
The beginning of our trip involved some amazing beach time, visiting the zoo, and yummy dinners with family!
We had breakfast at the ever famous "Mac 24/7". It was fun to get the challenge pancakes! I don't think these pictures show how large those things were!
Laine does some dramatics to show our experience of eating these delicious pancakes. OH BOY, they were YUMMY!!!
Thanksgiving was a great day with friends and family!!
The day after Thanksgiving, the guys did a paddling tour in Hawaii Kai. Apparently it was really fun and very educational! The guys loved it and we recommend it to anyone up for a physical challenge while being educated about the Hawaiian culture!
We mustache you to check out Keane's 2nd Birthday Party ;)
Keane's 2nd birthday was Sunday so we decided to have a fun chin-dig with friends and family while we were in town! We had reserved a great pool area at the local recreation center with kids play yard and basketball courts! Just perfect for Keane and his friends! Well, it poured rain the entire day. The pool was closed because of the storm, and we were forced to squeeze our party on a 900 sq.ft. covered lanai while we all listened to the down pour around us! Although my vision of this fun day were initially crushed, the party was a huge success! The kids had fun playing some indoor table games and coloring, while the adults were enjoying some relaxing conversation! But most importantly, Keane was hugely blessed and had a GREAT time with friends and family.
PRESENTS!! Fun opening gifts!
We sang happy birthday and had yummy cake. It was really a fun day! (you can see the birthday song video here.)
Wrapping up the trip
Our last few days were filled with friends and fun! And food, lots of food!
Sweet moments with his grandma! love, love, LOVE!!
Fun with our Tamaoka friends!
Lots of breakfast!!! Hawaii knows how to make good breakfast!!!
What a fun trip! A huge thank you to our family for being the best hosts as usual and the Bagoyos for lending us their van for the week! We love all of our friends and family and miss you guys so much! We hope to come back soon and see everyone and again!
If you know me at all, you know I don't want to live here in the busy hussle bussle life of LA. Coming up on our 5th year here, I've learned to not only appreciate some things about this city, but to actually enjoy it too!!
Since it's the season of being thankful for things, I thought I would remember some reasons why I'm glad to be where God has put me. Here is my list of top 10 things I'm thankful for living in Los Angeles!
*Please note that although it is in this order today, sometimes the order of my thankfulness does change depending on the season of my life.
**Also, please note that some of these things on this thankful list can also be on my "Why I Hate Living In LA" list too ;)
10. The Icon-ness
Celebrities! Fancy cars!! Parties!!! Hollywood!!!! All the glitz and glamour you picture when someone says "Los Angeles"! One of my most favorite things is seeing the "Hollywood" sign from different areas of town.
9. Flower & Fashion Districts
Beautiful flowers and hot new clothes as far as the eye can see! That's pretty much how amazing these places are! It's the best to spend an early Saturday morning at the flower district surrounded by the fresh floral aroma and a warm cup of coffee! Then bringing my treasures home for a quarter of the price I would have to pay a florist! If you live here, you should know what I'm talking about! If you're planning a visit, a day here is a day well spent! Come to both districts with plenty of cash on Saturdays!
Endless amount of things to do in this city! If money was never an issue, you could do something new every night! Sports, Broadway shows, concerts, and everything in between!
7. Central Location
I love being able to jump in the car and hit the road to a fun, new destination! One of the best things about LA is to know I could drive for 2 hours in any direction, and be somewhere awesome!! North is Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Pismo Beach! South is Long Beach, OC, Huntington Beach, Oceanside and San Diego! North East, you're in the mountains of San Bernadino and hitting the slopes at Big Bear! South East, you're relaxing with a mojito next to the pool in Palm Springs! And only a couple hours more and you're living it up in Las Vegas!!
Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice and Manhattan Beach all available to any Los Angeles resident and visitor! So much life, culture, sun and entertainment at the beach! We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place!
Yes, I LOVE Disneyland so much, that I place it in it's own category! And of course it is in my top 5 reasons why I love living here!!! It's my escape and it's the happiest place on earth!!! Need I say more?
I don't know anywhere else that has amazing food like Los Angeles! Although there are places that are known for their food, Los Angeles is a hub for cultures and has perfected serving excellent food from around the world! If you're on a budget or want to do some serious wine and dining, LA has it! Get your grub on!
Rodeo Dr, Beverly Center, The Promenade, The Grove, plenty of outlets and million more places to shop! I cry at the thought of having anything less now that I have all this around the corner! There are endless amounts of places to browse, splurge, and dream! Los Angeles is a shoppers paradise!
2. Family Friendly
A lot of people don't think of Los Angeles being a family oriented place, but families are the root of what makes this city thrive! Before I had Keane, I wouldn't even have this on my list! Everything from the zoo, to museums. Free events, parades, and festivals! Parks everywhere!! There's plenty to do with the kiddies here!! Things that we love to do as a family, too! And for pet lovers, it's a very pet friendly city too! You can find local dog parks and pet stores with fun things for your little fluffy!!
For sure the number one reason I love living here, is something so close to our hearts... our friends! This crazy city is filled with people who have good hearts and value relationships! The reason this is so important to me is because it was really hard to adjust when we moved here, but the fruits of going through that are abundant! What a huge blessing we have to be with people who love and care for eachother! This is irreplaceable!
Thank you Lord Jesus for this beautiful city of Los Angeles! Jesus, you're the God of this city! Thank you for allowing us to be where you can use us and help us to continue to be a light here! May your will be done wherever you lead us! With all our hearts, we praise you! ~Amen
The first week of October, my mom came to spend some time with us! We always have so much fun when she visits!
Day Trip to Aquarium of the Pacific
Laine took me surfing!!! My first in Santa Monica! He really is the best teacher! I recommend him to everyone!!!! ;)
Digging for buried treasures
Laine dug a mini pond and Keane was in heaven the rest of the day!
We had a great time with my mom! Thank you Mom for all the pictures too!!! I'll send them to you ASAP!!!
Thanks for checking in on the Furukawa clan!
Playing at the park
I have a lot that I need to catch up on. The computer is still acting funny so it's been hard doing any updates! So I'll make this as quick and thorough as possible!
A couple weeks ago, Keane and I went to a tots learning class at the LA zoo. It was SO MUCH FUN!!! We loved it!!! We started with a little class time learning about some different animals and Keane got to pet a snake!!!
Then we got to go into the zoo. Each child got a little backpack that had lots of information and toys to learn about the animals in the zoo! As a large group, we went through the zoo! There wasn't anyone else there except us! LOVED IT!!! I must've looked like the crazy mom, cause I didn't bring the stroller and let Keane run the whole time!! He was in heaven!
Took Keane to the beach as it's getting a little cooler her in So Cal. Laine thought he'd try to take him out on the board. Keane was not having it, but we seemed to be enjoying ourselves ;)
I'm gonna end this here in case Bessie dies on me. We are shopping for a new computer, so hopefully, this won't go on for too long!! But I have more to share!! I'll update soon!!
We went to the beach with Laine two weeks ago and I got some really fun pics! Laine borrowed a fancy lens from a friend so we could take some surfing shots of him for his website. I FELL IN LOVE!! If someone wants to give us $2,000 for this lens, I will not reject it ;) Hehe Well, please enjoy the following pics!
I have to tell you that the following pics of Laine are MY picks and unedited!
I'm sorry, there's still some more.... He melts my heart
How did I get so blessed?? Well, that was a lot of pictures! Now you know how much I love that lens!! haha, And Keane was loving the beach too, which makes for an easy photo shoot!
I have MORE pictures of the zoo! I'll have to post another time!
Our week was jammed packed with fun! My parents came to visit for the holiday and finished with a little birthday celebration before they went back home.
We did so much for the 4th! We started at the beach with what seemed like the rest of Los Angeles! It was packed! But we had a great time in the sand and sun!
beach fun with Oma
Then we had dinner and spent time at UCLA campus. There was not a sole to be found there! It was so nice for us to just run around and play in the grass at the sculpture gardens.
Then we headed home for our own little light show.
Thank you Auntie Shelby for the light saber! Keane loves to turn it on and play "bang things" with it!!
To end our holiday week, we got to celebrate my birthday! My parents were so kind to watch Keane for us so we could go on our first date in over a year! I had the best time! And will be definitely making a point to do more date nights! We had a first time experience at a dine in theater. Which was awesome! I want to go every night! I had such a blessed birthday!
A big thank you to everyone that celebrated my birthday with us! And to my parents for everything! We always enjoy your visits! Miss you guys already!!
love and God Bless!
This is Laine, Jessica, Keane Kai and Chia's blog. We love sharing some great moments with our close friends and family. love, love ~
