We were so blessed to be able to go to a friends wedding in Hawaii. The double blessing of being there and getting to be with friends and family! The highlight was watching Keane develop relationships with our friends' children! To see another generation of blessed relationship being passed down warms my heart! This time we visited, we had two children instead of one! Double the warm, bubbly feeling of having our little family in Hawaii!! Kai's first visit and lots of memories to take with us! Be prepared for A LOT of pictures of Keane and Porter playing together! This is just day 1! haha Bachelorette party time!! Kelli's last hoorah involved a belly dancer, wine and lots and lots of laughs! Exactly how it should be, right? For sure a great night with the bride to be! The guys did a trip to the aviation museum! I guess the coolest part was they happened to be there at a time when a driver went down to the USS Arizona and they got to watch it all! Keane was stoked to see the ships and airplanes while Laine, my dad and Grandpa Ken were enjoying the history! Beach day with the Tamaokas! I LOVED this day!! Laine and David surfing while I had the boys! I watched both sets of boys enjoying themselves with their friend! WE MISS YOU TAMAOKAS!!! Paddling tour x2! Yeah! The guys did this last time we came (you can see about that from a previous post, HERE), but since my folks were there, we had them all do it again! Of course, they loved it! And we would definitely suggest this to our friends!!! Laine's gopro video for the trip! Wedding day finally arrived and it started out disastrous on our end! Laine woke up with a stomach bug which left him in bed all morning! So my dad ran to the store to pick up some coke for him and brought back one for me! I thought I'd share it with my sick-o husband! Not long after that, my dad found out that his mom (mamalew) had fallen and was in the ER! So we were all on edge wondering how bad it was and waiting to know if we had to take my parents straight to the airport to fly back to be with her! Within a couple hours and by lunch time, everyone was okay and we were ready to get on with the day! Laine was feeling less queezy and my grandma was stable! The wedding was beautiful! For sure the best part was seeing my great friend marrying a man she has been waiting and praying for! The setting was a gorgeous beach ceremony in Waimanalo! Saying goodbye is always hard! This year, watching Keane cry when we said goodbye to his cousin and friends pulled extra hard on my heart! It still stings a little when Keane asks to go on an airplane to go back and see everyone! God blessed us so much that we can say we got to see almost everyone at least twice! This dinner gathering helped! We did get to squeeze a picnic at Moanalua Gardens before we left! Our tradition of visiting the gardens every time we go back is still going!! And what's a trip home without Laine, humbly, beating Landon at kendama? So, we got it on camera! I didn't marry him for his kendama skills ;)

Well, anything in Hawaii, just is, BETTER! Maybe it's something in the air, or the water, or maybe it's just... paradise! Yeah, that's it! sigh.... (closing my eyes and pretending the sounds of Santa Monica Boulevard traffic are rushing waves washing over the beautiful, warm, sandy beach...) oh, sorry!! Anyway... I should have done this entry, oooohhh, maybe, at least a month ago, but things are always fun and crazy, so I'm just now getting to it! (SORRY LANDON!! I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!) We are so lucky to be able to spend another Thanksgiving with our Hawaii family! This time, we spent a lavish 10 days in paradise, giving us plenty of time to see all our friends, and family and still having time to ourselves! Definitely one of the best trips back so far! We were very lucky (a HUGE thank you to special family members ;)) to stay at the Marriott, Waikiki for the first couple days! This is where most of our "just us" time was spent, and it was HEAVENLY! The beginning of our trip involved some amazing beach time, visiting the zoo, and yummy dinners with family! We had breakfast at the ever famous "Mac 24/7". It was fun to get the challenge pancakes! I don't think these pictures show how large those things were! Laine does some dramatics to show our experience of eating these delicious pancakes. OH BOY, they were YUMMY!!! ThanksgivingThanksgiving was a great day with friends and family!! Paddling tourThe day after Thanksgiving, the guys did a paddling tour in Hawaii Kai. Apparently it was really fun and very educational! The guys loved it and we recommend it to anyone up for a physical challenge while being educated about the Hawaiian culture! We mustache you to check out Keane's 2nd Birthday Party ;)Keane's 2nd birthday was Sunday so we decided to have a fun chin-dig with friends and family while we were in town! We had reserved a great pool area at the local recreation center with kids play yard and basketball courts! Just perfect for Keane and his friends! Well, it poured rain the entire day. The pool was closed because of the storm, and we were forced to squeeze our party on a 900 sq.ft. covered lanai while we all listened to the down pour around us! Although my vision of this fun day were initially crushed, the party was a huge success! The kids had fun playing some indoor table games and coloring, while the adults were enjoying some relaxing conversation! But most importantly, Keane was hugely blessed and had a GREAT time with friends and family. PRESENTS!! Fun opening gifts! We sang happy birthday and had yummy cake. It was really a fun day! (you can see the birthday song video here.) Wrapping up the tripOur last few days were filled with friends and fun! And food, lots of food! Sweet moments with his grandma! love, love, LOVE!! Fun with our Tamaoka friends! Lots of breakfast!!! Hawaii knows how to make good breakfast!!! What a fun trip! A huge thank you to our family for being the best hosts as usual and the Bagoyos for lending us their van for the week! We love all of our friends and family and miss you guys so much! We hope to come back soon and see everyone and again!
xox It's pretty crazy to look back and see all the amazing blessings that the Lord has done for us. Even when, at the time, they didn't seem like blessings! But, I thought it to be wise to reflect and just give God glory for our accomplishments. Furukawa Family in 2013- Keane learns to walk, run, and talk non stop! - Welcomed our new niece, Amia, to the family - Laine goes to worship retreat - 3 trips to Redding, 1 trip to Vegas, Hawaii, Forest Homes and lots of visitors to LA! - Laine signs surfing contract with major Santa Monica Hotel - Keane falls in love with basketball and swimming - Jessica and Laine ends partnership with Washing Spot and starts looking for new business adventures - Keane and Jessica get surfing lessons from Laine - Keane meets his great grandparents from Alaska We are just so thankful to know that God has taken care of us through all things this past year! And He's still preparing great things for our future. Worship the Lord through ScriptureMay you all be blessed in 2014 and Happy New Year!
xox The last couple weeks have been fun and busy with holiday travel! But I'm jumping ahead on a couple updates I need to do just so I can share a special moment! December 1st was Keane's second birthday and we were blessed to spend with friends and family in Hawaii. Here is a clip of us all singing "happy birthday". So I thought it was probably about time that I finish about our little get away home. Sorry it's taking so long!! Keane is totally healthy again! And his 1st birthday has come and gone... now I can focus a little more ;) HA! So, to pick up where we left off, Thanksgiving! We had such a great day! We started with family pictures which we will be ordering soon. They are so cute! You will love them!! Then we had an amazing dinner at Willows restaurant. Our dinner table was in a canoe! So cool! Right next to some waterfalls. It was nice and delicious! It was such a nice holiday! The next day was our last and Keane's big day!! His first 1st birthday celebration at the beach!! The next day we got to the airport and found out our flight was delayed for three more hours. Gave us three more hours to spend with the family! That was the day Keane started getting sick, so we got him some medication, ate a great breakfast provided by Bren and went back to the airport for that long ride back to LA =(
Not a day goes by that we don't miss Hawaii and everyone there. xoxo love you Hawaii~until next time <3 Day before Thanksgiving was our family fun day! Laine's favorite place to visit is Moanalua Gardens. So we wanted to take Keane and my parents there! They have these really cool wooden benches/chairs all over the park, so we had fun with them! It's always nice to have some gathering time with the family while we're there! Laine's parents always put out a good spread of food. They are excellent hosts!! We had some time to eat with friends and family. Meet the newest family member and our neice, LOLA!! SWEETEST FACE!!! Had to say our goodbyes to Keane's great grandparents. Grandpa Alex is 96! I felt so blessed to have Keane meet him and his sweet Great Grandma Evelyn.
So, I think I'll do our trip in sections. We were only there a few days, so it should only take a couple posts! Okay, so... the plane ride to Hawaii was a HUGE BLESSING! Well, first, we found out our flight was delayed an hour, but that was fine. When we boarded, we saw that the flight wasn't very full and the gentleman sitting in the row next to us gave us his seat. AN ENTIRE ROW OF 4 SEATS TO OURSELVES!! Keane LOVED it! He crawled and cruised back and forth with a nap in the beginning of the flight and at the end. He was really good! We went straight to Grandma and Grandpa Furukawa's place! Keane was up late playing and exploring! Day 1 we all were pretty tired from the flight and Keane had a little temp. So we tried to take it easy a little. Keane loved exploring Grandma and Grandpa's house. He loved their magnets and puting them in and out of the cup holders on the cooler! Then we had some social time with the Tamaoka's! Got to meet the newest guy-Portland! They are all so precious!! WE LOVE YOU TOMAOKA'S!!! Wish we could see you and the keiki's more often! We then headed out to Pupukea where my parents had rented a condo for us all to stay in while visiting there! It was fun! Lot's of roaming space for Keane! Have more to share! Stay tuned. But I'm out for now. Keane is very sick with a cough still and we need prayers. Going to the Dr.'s tomorrow.
love, love, love p.s. we miss you Hawaii We just got back from a quick trip to Hawaii for Thanksgiving. I am just posting a quick recap because we are still recovering. Keane is sick with a cough :( so I will post again with all the other pictures soon! Hope you all were blessed this Thanksgiving. we truly were blessed with safe journies and great times with friends and family. Sad to have it end so fast. This past year has been hard with new businesses and new baby and Ministry, but God has blessed us so much through it all and Laine and I are so thankful for His unconditional love for us. Happy Thanksgiving!! (a little late, but we still mean it) <3
This past New Year's Eve was one of the few that I didn't get the chance to go back home. It's always strange to me how opposite Hawaii is from the mainland. For instance, come 4th of July in Hawaii no one really does anything. I mean we do celebrate and take note of the significance of the date but no where near the way the mainland does. Another example would be New Year's Eve - here in the mainland it's so dead and almost eerily calm, it reminds me even more of how I miss home. There's no keikis screaming and running around, the occasional bottle rocket popping off, mom getting drunk on non-alcoholic sparkling cider, and dad readying the hose for the "Furukawa RED DRAGON". Speaking of the "RED DRAGON", in Hawaii we DO fireworks and I don't mean your fun little sparklers..ha. Check out this vid of our countdown for last New Year's Eve. I have to admit it can get out of hand but since the state decided on a strict ban of any aerial fireworks and dubbing last year's nye as the "last one" you can only imagine what everyone in Hawaii was thinking..."let's go all out then!" I'm glad we taped it being that it will most-likely be a memory and the end of a family tradition....or will it? ;P
kung hei fat choi!, Laine ps - i just realized i wore the same shirt last nye as I did this nye. someone has a favorite shirt. ha. |
