ps - i just realized i wore the same shirt last nye as I did this nye. someone has a favorite shirt. ha.
This past New Year's Eve was one of the few that I didn't get the chance to go back home. It's always strange to me how opposite Hawaii is from the mainland. For instance, come 4th of July in Hawaii no one really does anything. I mean we do celebrate and take note of the significance of the date but no where near the way the mainland does. Another example would be New Year's Eve - here in the mainland it's so dead and almost eerily calm, it reminds me even more of how I miss home. There's no keikis screaming and running around, the occasional bottle rocket popping off, mom getting drunk on non-alcoholic sparkling cider, and dad readying the hose for the "Furukawa RED DRAGON". Speaking of the "RED DRAGON", in Hawaii we DO fireworks and I don't mean your fun little sparklers..ha. Check out this vid of our countdown for last New Year's Eve. I have to admit it can get out of hand but since the state decided on a strict ban of any aerial fireworks and dubbing last year's nye as the "last one" you can only imagine what everyone in Hawaii was thinking..."let's go all out then!" I'm glad we taped it being that it will most-likely be a memory and the end of a family tradition....or will it? ;P

That is amazing video of a very cool memory! The NYE Kathy & I spent at the Furukawa's & seeing the entire neighborhood go up all at once was so exciting! Yes, Jess - there is NOTHING on the mainland quite like it!
